As we head into the second half of 2024, be sure to watch the latest installment in October Research’s Economic Forecast webinar series, featuring two nationally renowned economists from Moody’s Analytics,
Moody’s Matt Colyar and Shandor Whitcher provide analysis on the third quarter and the remainder of 2024. Learn what you can expect on a macro-economic scale and how it will affect the real estate market.
“The U.S. economy has navigated the post-pandemic world really well, but there’s also been serious pain points,” Colyar said on the webinar. “You have decades’ high inflation. You have the Federal Reserve’s response to get rid of that inflation and what that’s done to interest rate sensitive parts of the economy.
“You have the spectacle of a bank collapsing, but through it all, you have a labor market that’s been a bulwark. People who want a job have been able to find one and those who have a job and want to seek something like higher pay have been able to negotiate that.”
Colyar’s work is primarily focused on the labor market and monetary policy in the U.S. He also covers the economies of Pennsylvania and several U.S. metro areas.
Prior to joining Moody’s Analytics, Matt worked at the World Bank, focusing on private-sector development in South Asia, and in private industry as a financial analyst.
Whitcher is an economist in the research department at Moody’s Analytics and is part of the firm’s real estate, regional forecasting, and U.S. national forecasting teams. He covers the economies of Arizona and Wisconsin as well as several U.S. metro areas.
