Doma Title Insurance is expanding its underwriting footprint with two new hires who will lead the company’s entrance into the New England market. Agency Manager Laurie Barrett and Regional Underwriting Counsel Lony-Ann Sheehan will provide agency management and underwriting support to independent title agents and attorneys in Connecticut, Delaware, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont.
Barrett is a business development and training executive with 30 years of experience in the title, real estate and mortgage industries. She comes to Doma from First National Title & Escrow in Massachusetts, where she was business development officer, according to her LinkedIn profile. Previously, Barrett owned and operated The Social Bark, a small business-focused provider of marketing and branding services.
“As we dramatically expand Doma’s sales coverage across the country, we have focused our talent search on experienced sales consultants that can deliver added value to our agents. Laurie meets that standard exceptionally well,” Doma Regional Agency Manager Glen Stout said in a release. “She is well-versed in title operations, understands the New England market, and has the training expertise to guide our agents in growing their operations and building their brands.”
Barrett holds a real estate broker license in both Massachusetts and Vermont and is a licensed loan officer and licensed real estate instructor in Massachusetts.
“Having worked on every side of the real estate transaction, I understand what it takes to create the ultimate agent and customer experience,” Barrett said. “With my background in training, talent recruitment, company branding, content messaging and public speaking, I will work diligently to collaborate with industry partners on forming mutually beneficial relationships. I look forward to helping our New England partners kickstart their growth as Doma drives increased efficiency and customer satisfaction with our cutting-edge technology.”
Sheehan comes to Doma from Lieberman Law Office, a real estate law firm in Massachusetts, according to her LinkedIn profile, where she served as a senior title attorney. Prior to that, Sheehan served as a closing attorney and associate attorney for two other law firms, representing lenders and buyers in real estate closings and corporate sellers in real estate owned (REO) closings.
“With more than 15 years of experience in real estate transactions and as a practicing attorney, Lony-Ann will be able to assist our agents with efficient and customer-centric underwriting support,” Doma Vice President and Deputy Chief Underwriting Counsel Sara Valenz said. “Her strong understanding of the title agent’s needs and the legal knowledge necessary to assess risk in underwriting will position us as a leading title insurance underwriter in our New England states.”
Sheehan earned her juris doctor degree from Boston College Law School.
“I am looking forward to playing an important role in Doma’s expansion into the New England market,” she said. “I love the idea of being part of building something from the ground up. My recent position as a senior title attorney at a thriving Massachusetts law firm gives me the ability to anticipate our agents’ greatest needs and priorities, while my prior position in the REO department of a busy default servicing firm has provided me with a wealth of experience in reviewing titles and resolving complex title issues.”
