Cybersecurity is a critical concern in real estate, and negligence can have severe consequences. That’s why experts in the field will be tackling the issue from a holistic, comprehensive perspective at the 2025 National Settlement Services Summit (NS3) June 16-18 in Pittsburgh, Pa.
The session, one of many planned for this year’s NS3, will involve a walkthrough of the many risks of being found negligent in your cybersecurity practices or involved in a data breach. Participants will learn about the compliance requirements one must follow, the steps to take after a breach and the policies to implement to avoid costly legal and financial mistakes.
Taking part in the panel as an expert speaker is Stanley Czaja, senior vice president and central region agency manager for the WFG National Title Insurance Company.
Czaja’s main focus during the panel will be to impress upon professionals in the audience “the importance of having strong cybersecurity protocols in place at (their) organization.”
With stories breaking regularly about cybersecurity breaches and compromised sensitive information, Czaja feels that data security and a robust approach to identifying and stopping cyber attacks is more crucial than ever. The panel is especially important for “realtors, lenders, title insurance agents, title insurance companies – essentially anyone who is part of the real estate transaction process,” he added.
“Cyberattacks are increasing at an alarming pace and the real estate industry has become a prime target for cybercriminals,” Czaja said.
Looking ahead to the conference, Czaja shared why in particular he enjoys speaking and networking at NS3.
“It’s a large gathering of title insurance professionals from all parts of the country,” Czaja said. “It’s a great platform to spread the message about the importance of having strong cybersecurity protocols and what can happen if you don’t.”
Additionally, Czaja said he hopes panel attendees learn the importance of routinely reviewing their current cybersecurity protocols and making sure to have an effective response plan in place.
Czaja will be joined by James Chou, Orrick law senior associate. He is a is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional, a Certified Cloud Security Professional and a Certified Data Privacy Solutions Engineer.
