The American Escrow Association (AEA) is mourning the passing of long-time attorney and consultant Arthur Davis III, Esq., the organizations senior policy advisor.
“We are deeply saddened to inform you that our beloved colleague and friend, Art Davis, passed away on Friday, Jan. 17, 2025,” a statement read. “On Thursday evening, he was out for a walk with his wife, Christy and their dog. Upon return to their home, he experienced an intercranial hemorrhage … He passed the following morning.
“Art and Christy had just celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary. Their son, Anders, just married in October, which Christy is so thankful that Art was there. Their youngest daughter, Liza, is getting married this spring, and their other daughter, Emerson, revealed on Christmas Eve that she is expecting their first grandbaby, a girl, due on July 7.”
Davis served escrow settlement providers and other clients in Washington, D.C., for more than 30 years in areas including regulation and compliance, with his primary work being representation of AEA.
Prior to working with AEA, Davis served in the Internal Revenue Service office of appeals and as district counsel in Greensboro, N.C.
He earned a juris doctor degree in 1986 from Wake Forest University and completed additional tax law courses equivalent to a Master of Laws in taxation concentration.
From 1986 to 1990, Davis served as attorney-advisor for the U.S. Treasury Department in the office of chief counsel, Internal Revenue Service, Legislation, and Regulations division.
Davis’ private law work included several areas of practice such as trade association representation, contracts, estate planning and probate, general business planning, and tax compliance work. He was also a licensed certified public accountant.
Over Davis’ career, he spoke before Congress numerous times, as well as to entities such as the Department of Housing and Urban Development, Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, Department of the Treasury and Federal Trade Commission.
A celebration of life is planned for early summer with further details to be shared at a later date.
