This year’s National Settlement Services Summit (NS3) will take place May 21-23, welcoming hundreds of industry leaders and title professionals to the Naples Grande Beach Resort in Naples, Fla.

Bill Svoboda, CloseSimple co-founder and brand evangelist; and Sam Trimble, FNF Family of Companies vice president, strategic growth and development,  will lead a session titled “AI 2.0: Beyond the Hype” on Wednesday, May 22.

The long-time artificial intelligence (AI) aficionados will show NS3 guests how AI can be a useful tool for marketing and operations today, not someday, while also providing insights on educating partners across the real estate transaction.

“We will highlight how AI is transforming business (not just the title and escrow, or real estate industry) ... and the need for each of us as business leaders to lean into the possibilities of AI so we can see how it can help us push our businesses forward,” Svoboda said. “A lot of people have been either hesitant to try AI, already feel like they are behind the curve, or waiting for others to ‘figure it out,’ so they can use it at that point.

“The problem is that business and innovation is not slowing down and neither is your competition. If you are not leaning into the possibilities that AI opens, you might be too late to the game. It's not that AI will take your job ... but those who know how to use AI probably will.”

Trimble and Svoboda added now is the perfect time for everyone in the title and escrow industry to start experimenting with AI and try to narrow down its true business potential.

“We are all trying to do more with less resources, and AI can help us accomplish that goal,” Trimble said. “We want to talk to the business leaders and decision makers who are looking for ways to keep up with all the tech changes hitting our industry – and those who are looking for ways to use AI to get ahead of their competition.”

When asked what areas of the industry and best and least prepared for AI implementation, the speakers said front-line sales and marketing positions seem the most ready.

“I feel sorry for anyone who thinks that their job won’t be affected by AI, because in my opinion, those people are most likely the ones who will be shocked when creative people find creative ways to modernize their role or job description with AI,” Svoboda said. “Front-line sales and marketing positions seemed to be best poised to embrace AI since generative AI (i.e. ChatGPT) is widely accepted in the world of marketing or sales. But generative AI can be used by everyone from the front-desk to back-office staff when you consider the power of even using AI to help summarize text, edit text, etc.”

Trimble said he and Svoboda wanted the opportunity to share cutting edge ideas on the biggest stage in the industry.

“With a potential of 600-800 people in attendance, we wanted to create a session on a hot topic that will leave each person talking about the session for a long time – and actually using the principles that we discuss,” he said. “As far as a takeaway from the session, you'll have to show up to see, but everyone will be blown away by even the most elementary practice of using AI to help summarize emails that bear more resemblance to novels than ‘quick updates.’”
