Attendees at the 18th annual National Settlement Services Summit (NS3) in Orlando, Fla., June 1-3, are in for a real treat when NBA Hall-of-Famer and successful businessman Rick Barry takes center stage.
Conference attendees will have the opportunity to ask the former basketball great any question that comes to mind. There is no subject “off the table,” according to Barry, who plans to conduct a “no-holds-barred” Q&A session on the summit’s first day. He will be joined on stage by former NBA player LaRue Martin Jr.
Barry was named one of the Top 50 NBA players of all-time, winning a world championship in 1974-75 with the San Francisco Warriors (now Golden State). In the old ABA (American Basketball Association), he won a title with the Oakland Oaks during the 1968-69 season. He is one of the most celebrated players in NBA history, not only for his incredible game skills but for the fiery competitiveness he brought to the court each night.
“I always enjoy speaking at events like the NS3 Summit. Doing so provides an opportunity to meet a lot of new people and to share my experiences in life, especially in the worlds of business and basketball,” Barry said. “The qualities that helped make me a success in basketball apply to the world of business. The word competitor more than describes Barry, who brings that same energy, enthusiasm, and passion to his business dealings. He has been involved in over a dozen different companies, including some involving real estate, health and wellness products, consulting, sales, agriculture, medicine and software. He enjoys investing in new products and services that combine competitive sports with helping people.
Some of his business ventures include spokesman for Medicileaf; a sponsor of the Professional Pickleball Association; a leader in the world of cannabinoids; a partner in Vijuvia Life Centers; a spokesman for BioGenesis, an all-natural anti-inflammatory supplement; and a spokesperson for Go Sleeves, maker of knee, calf and other sleeves that have kinesiotape built into the products.
In 1987, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame inducted Barry as a player. He was part of an incredible class that included Walt “Clyde” Frazier, “Pistol” Pete Maravich, Bob Houbregs and Bobby Wanzer. In 1988, the Golden State Warriors retired his No. 24 jersey.
All five of Barry’s sons have played professional basketball. At one time, Jon, Brent and Drew Barry were in the NBA, becoming the first family to have a father and three sons play in the league. His oldest son, Scooter, a member of the 1988 NCAA Champion Kansas Jayhawks, played for Boston Celtics and in Europe for over 15 years.
Barry lives in Colorado Springs, Colo., and Lakewood Ranch, Fla., with his wife, Lynn, who was an All-America basketball player at the College of William & Mary.
