The Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA) awarded AmeriFirst’s Laura Sherrod with the first annual Ken Markison Legacy Achievement Award during the association’s Regulatory Compliance Conference in Washington, D.C.
MBA said the award recognizes individuals who have distinguished themselves in pursuit of the Certified Mortgage Compliance Professional (CMCP) certificate and designation, shown dedication to MBA, and have demonstrated excellence in the regulatory compliance field and the real estate finance industry.
Sherrod is director of servicing compliance and learning development at AmeriFirst Home Mortgage.
“Laura was not only instrumental in the development of Level I of the CMCP as an active and constructive pilot tester for the Level I courses, Laura was also the first person to pass Level I of the CMCP and did so with consistently excellent scores,” said Steve O’Connor, MBA’s senior vice president of public policy and industry relations, in a press release.
The award was established in Markison’s honor following his retirement from MBA in 2017. Markison was the principle architect behind MBA’s Compliance Essentials program. He also led the efforts for industry input on countless federal regulations and was a speaker at the National Settlement Services Summit from 2015-2017.
