Jeff Carlson, senior vice president at Indecomm Global Services, a business process outsourcing company, has been named the new chair of the Minnesota Electronic Real Estate Recording Commission (ERERC). He replaces Hennepin County Registrar of Titles
Michael Cunniff, who passed away late last year.
“Enabling the counties of Minnesota to receive eRecordings has been a long-term personal and professional goal,” Carlson said. “My new position as chair of the Minnesota Real Estate Recording Commission will allow me to continue this work. Currently we have about half of the counties in the state able to receive eRecordings. This saves taxpayers money and improves the ability of the county to serve its constituents in land transactions.”
Kay Wrucke, ERERC member and county recorder for Martin County, Minn., agreed with Carlson about the importance of eRecording.
“The commission believes that real estate transactions in Minnesota will be more cost effective to execute and more legally reliable as a consequence of our work. Jeff has been an integral part of our process over many years on the ERERC and the original electronic recording task force and we look forward to working with him as chair of the commission.”
Wrucke said ERERC is working hard to get 100 percent of the state to eRecord.
“We have commitments from nearly all of the rest of the counties to participate in eRecording and with Jeff leading the commission we expect to meet our goals,” she said.
The Electronic Real Estate Recording Commission was established in 2008 to adopt standards to implement electronic recording of land records. These standards would allow Minnesota counties to implement electronic filing of real estate documents. Submitters would have the option of sending documents electronically to the county, resulting in a more secure transfer and faster turnaround then the current paper process.
