AmTrust Title Insurance Co. has named Felice Shapiro general counsel for AmTrust Title and First Nationwide Title. She becomes one of the first female general counsels of a major title insurance underwriter.
AmTrust said Shapiro will be responsible for all underwriting decisions for both companies.
“Felice has made countless contributions to the title insurance industry from her work as president of NYSLTA, executive director of TIRSA and now general counsel at one of the leading title insurance underwriters in the industry,” AmTrust President Jason Gordon said in a release.
“With more than 35 years of industry experience working for two of the largest title insurance companies in the industry and helping launch AmTrust Title in 2016, she brings significant legal and title insurance expertise to the role,” Gordon said. “Known as a deal maker rather than a deal breaker, Felice brings an innovative legal perspective to the largest real estate transactions, and we look forward to better leveraging her insight to support both AmTrust Title and First Nationwide.”
Shapiro previously served as executive vice president and chief underwriter for AmTrust Title. She was responsible for overseeing all legal and underwriting decisions for the direct and agency sides of the business. Prior to joining AmTrust Title in January 2016, Shapiro was executive director and counsel of TIRSA, a rating agency for title insurance. She also spent more than 17 years at Old Republic Title Co.
