Several jurisdictions have signed up for e-recording with Simplifile recently including The City of Hartford, Conn. York County in South Carolina, Kalamazoo County, Mich. and Knox County, Maine.
“Knox County decided to start e-recording when we changed recording vendors and also because we have had several requests to start e-recording,” said Knox County Register of Deeds Lisa Simmons. “Here at the Knox County Registry of Deeds we take pride in serving our customers in the best ways possible. We e-recorded our first document this morning, and it went very smoothly.”
With Simplifile’s web-based service, customers can scan, upload and submit documents online, where the registry staff is able to receive, review, stamp, record and return the documents back to the submitter electronically in minutes.
Knox County will be accepting all types of documents for electronic recording. In Kalamazoo County all documents will be e-recording with the exception of warranty deeds needing a tax clearance, which they anticipate accepting in the near future.
“This year we hope to connect with a variety of e-recording submitters to begin the process that I am sure will continue to grow over time,” said Kalamazoo County Clerk and Register of Deeds Timothy Snow.
High-speed Internet access, a computer and a scanner are the minimum requirements for customers to begin e-recording documents through Simplifile.
Customers include title companies, banks, attorneys and other organizations that submit land and property-related documents, for example, to the clerk’s office for recording.
“We were privileged to facilitate the first official e-recording in the City of Hartford and look forward to providing customers with a more convenient, paperless recording option,” said Paul Clifford, president of Simplifile. “Our service is easy-to-use and makes it possible for customers to submit their documents for recording to the clerk’s office in minutes. It also streamlines the recording process at the clerk’s office, cutting down on paper waste and mailing expenses.”
