First American Title Insurance Co. promoted Senior Underwriter Matt Sager to senior operations counsel. In his new role, he joins the legal department and will be responsible for title operations and regulatory issues for the west region of the company’s direct division, which includes California, Hawaii, Alaska, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Utah, Nevada, Arizona, Wyoming, Colorado, New Mexico and Texas.
Sager joined First American Title in 2008 as underwriting counsel for Utah. Most recently, he served as senior underwriter for Utah, Nevada and Arizona, a role he held since he took on responsibility for the oversight of underwriting for Arizona and Nevada in 2012. Prior to joining First American Title, Sager was the regional underwriting counsel for a national underwriter. Earlier in his career, he also was general counsel for a title insurance company.
In 2013, Sager was appointed by Utah Gov. Gary Herbert to serve as a commissioner on the Utah Title and Escrow Commission. He is also a member of the Utah Bar Association and Arizona Bar Association. He earned his Juris Doctor degree from Vermont Law School and a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies from the University of Utah.
