Landtech Data Corp. Director of Sales and Marketing Benjamin Bell announced Edward Wyatt Bell, founder and president of Landtech Data Corp. has passed away.
“His vision and dedication to improving the closing process has been realized by thousands of agents all across the United States,” Benjamin Bell said.
Edward Wyatt Bell was the son of William Wyatt Bell, a real estate attorney in Michigan. Edward Bell began in the title industry at a young age, doing settlement statements by hand after hours for his father. After attending Michigan State in the early 1970s, he eventually went on to found two title companies.
“With the dawn of the computer age, Edward envisioned creating a software package geared towards the title insurance and closing industry,” Benjamin Bell said.
Landtech began in 1977 on a Radio Shack TRS-80 Model I computer. This first system had no lower-case characters or color. It had only 32K of memory, with a pair of 160K, 5.25-inch floppy drives. “Edward Bell single-handedly programmed the very first closing software package on the market, the Landtech Real Estate Settlement System. He eventually sold a system in 1979 for $395. He chose this price, because he could pay it back if it didn’t work. After 36 years in business, Landtech is now utilized by closing agents on over 10,000 desktops across the United States. His commitment to his business and his family is unprecedented,” Benjamin Bell said.
Edward Bell was also an avid pilot during his free time. He was one of only 200 pilots in the world to have an ATP certification for Helicopter and Fixed Wing.
“All of us in the Bell Family thank you for your support and we pledge that his vision will continued to be carried out going forward,” Benjamin Bell said.
