Locke Lord LLP added Timothy Kemp as partner in the corporate and transactional department, the Consumer Financial Practice Group and the Regulatory and Transactional Insurance Group in the firm’s Chicago office.
Kemp joins Locke Lord after a 20-year career with the Santa Ana, Calif. –based First American Financial Corp., where he served most recently as deputy general counsel. In that role, Kemp led First American’s regulatory and government relations efforts and was primarily responsible for providing ongoing legal and regulatory support to the company’s subsidiaries and affiliates nationwide.
This included title, property and casualty insurance underwriters and agents and warranty, settlement and financial service companies. During his tenure at First American, he drew from his past experience as a real estate transaction attorney and government regulator, to build and manage comprehensive internal compliance and legislative monitoring programs, create new insurance products and workflows and refinance corporate governance practices.
At Locke Lord, Kemp will add another dimension to the firm’s already strong consumer finance regulatory, regulatory and transactional insurance and mortgage litigation teams.
“We are thrilled that Tim is joining us and are certain his substantive expertise, business acumen and unique client perspective will have a measurable positive impact on the groups which he is joining,” said Jennifer Kennedy, Chicago office managing partner. “Locke Lord always is looking to diversify services we can provide our clients, and Tim’s solid background in the insurance and settlement services industries, and deep experience at First American, particularly in federal and state regulation, give us additional national bench strength as further regulatory oversights are put in place in the financial services industry.”
Kemp earned his law degree from The University of Mississippi and his undergraduate degree in business administration from Millsaps College.
